PIEDMONTESE CATTLE MAKE CLEAN SWEEP OF MEAT AND WOOL 2009 STEAK OF ORIGIN COMPETITION
The Society is delighted to inform site visitors that members made a clean sweep of the 2009 Steak of origin!
Catherine Withers is Supreme Champion as well as Crossbreed winner. Colin Brown's retail beef operation (www.lakefarmbeef.co.nz) won the Supreme brand award with a beast bred by Society President Don Buchanan. Don was also third in the Best of European section.
Piedmontese cattle, have a unique tenderness gene not found in any other breed of cattle. Not only does this make the meat the most tender of all cattle breeds, it also is the leanest - with less cholesterol than fish.
The breed has a 14% better meat yeild that other breeds - and this extra meat is in the better yields.
