> Piedmontese AGM and farm tour |
 |
The New Zealand Piedmontese Society had their AGM and Fieldays on Friday 27th May and Saturday 28th May, at Lake Karapiro.
The AGM was held at Lake Karapiro Lodge - a beautiful 5 star Lodge overlooking the lake. Members stayed at the Lodge and had a wonderful dinner and drinks on Friday night.
Don Buchanan was re-elected President for another term, and successful Steak of Origin entrant Charlie Stevens was elected Vice President.
Saturday morning was spent viewing the Piedmontese and Piedmontese crossed stock of Colin Brown - at Lake Farm, on the other side of the Lake. Colin is specialising in cross breeding Piedmontese and Angus cattle - and if any commercial Angus farmer could have seen the comparison between his pure Angus yearlings and his Angus/PIedmontese yearlings, they would surely change and crossbreed. The comparison is dramatic.
The decision has not been made as to location of next year's AGM. It will be either in Palmerston North during Bull Week, or in the South Island.

> 2011 Steak of Origin Results |
 |
NZ Beef and Lamb have just announced the 2011 results for the prestigious "Steak of Origin" competition - to find the best steak in the country.
Charlie Stevens came second in the "Best of European" section of the competition. Charlie has been successful year after year with his pure Piedmontese animals, so we were not surprised with his success.
Colin Brown had two Piedmontese cross animals make the semi finals of th "Best of Crossbred" section.
With so few Piedmontese animals in New Zealand, these results are a great tribute to the breed. The Steak of Origin competition clearly shows this.

> President off to USA PIedmontese Fieldays |
 |
Don Buchanan, The Piedmontese Society President is off in USA, to attend the North American Piedmontese Association's fieldays, held in South Dakota.
Don will then spend a week or so visiting American Piedmontese breeders, to share knowledge, and to see what is happening over there. If we can expand our gene pool beyond the Italian Sires, it can only improve the breed here.
We will make sure Don gives us an expensive report of his trip, on his return.
